South Carolina State University is potentially on the hook for $8.4 million in cut funding; about 44 percent of its funds from the State of South Carolina. Clemson University is targeted to lose $32 million and the state’s technical colleges stand to lose $31 million.
Sports-wise, it means that an already sustainable budget with the SC State athletic department needs to continue to be so, because the university will have limited room for a cash infusion to Bulldog athletics. And hopefully, the exquisite marketing that has become a hallmark of Bulldog athletics will continue without interruption.
$8.4 million is a lot, and on the academic side of things, the students and faculty will feel the pinch. But if there’s any part of the university that can thrive in the face of cuts, its sports; especially with the good run the Bulldogs are having over the last four years.

Record-breaking South Carolina State tailback
