The conference website hasn’t posted it yet, but word from Hal Lamar on Onnidan is that the SIAC Basketball Tournament is headed to Atlanta for the 2009-10 season.
It always struck me that the SIAC and the SWAC had this fascination with Birmingham. Not that I have anything against Birmingham, but it would seem that you would like to put a basketball tournament in a city that either is, or is close to being a place where people would like to visit.
Atlanta is exactly that. Traffic aside, there’s plenty to do and see. Throw in the fact that Morehouse (where the tournament will be located) is one of the national leaders in basketball attendance, and you have a formula for a profitable cultural event, ripe for sponsorship and media coverage.

If you ever wanted to see an example of March Madness, look no further than the 2009 SIAC Basketball Tournament. Benedict College and Claflin University, once locks to clash in the SIAC Basketball Tournament championship game, were upset in yesterday’s semi-final rounds by LeMoyne-Owen College and Lane College.
