It’s a new feature here on the HBCU Sports Blog, Games of the Week. Every week, we’ll preview the top contests from the four historically black athletic conferences, (MEAC, SWAC, CIAA, SIAC) and give you the opportunity to vote on which contest will be the best. The winner will receive a full-fledged post on Monday morning.
Here are the nominees for Week 2.
CIAA – Bowie State at Shepherd University – September 6, 2008, Shepherdstown, W.Va., 1:00 p.m. – In week one, the Bulldogs rolled over Cheyney with a 51 point outburst. It will be a little tougher as they visit the Shepherd Rams this week, the 13th ranked Division II team in the nation. This game narrowly gets the nod over Elizabeth City State-Catawba, as St. Augustine’s pulled out an upset win over Catawba in Week 1, 14-7.
SIAC – Fort Valley State vs. Morehouse, September 7, 2008, Fort Valley, Ga. 2:00 p.m. - Fort Valley State edged Clark-Atlanta last week on the road, and returns home to face a Morehouse team that rushed for only three yards and was stunned by Benedict College last week.
MEAC- North Carolina A&T vs. Winston-Salem State, September 6, 2008, Greensboro, NC. 6:00 p.m. – The Aggies of North Carolina A&T recorded their first victory in two years last week, while the Rams seek to open their first second season of MEAC competition in style in the Battle of I-40.
SWAC- Jackson State vs. Stillman, September 6, 2008, Jackson, MS. 4:00 p.m. – The defending SWAC champions again look out of conference for their first win of the season, this time against the Stillman Tigers of the SIAC.
