In one of the most anticipated hires in the black college football offseason, Jackson State yesterday announced former New Mexico State running backs coach Earnest Wilson as the Tigers’ new offensive coordinator.
“I am excited about the capabilities and qualities that coach Wilson can bring to our program,” said Rick Comegy. “I look forward to working with coach Wilson in preparing for the upcoming season.”
Wilson has also had stops at Alabama A&M, Elizabeth City State and Stillman, in addition to head coaching positions with several Arena League teams.
JSU was looking for a big name to replace the much maligned James Woody, and they may have found it in Wilson. The Tiger defense was stout through the 2009 season, but the offense could never muster any kind of momentum. JSU was ranked last in passing offense, and second to last in rushing offense.

It was cruel for Jackson State forward Grant Maxey to lose his senior season to a season-ending ankle injury, but more punishing to the Tiger fan sensibilities is how much the team misses his offense.
It’s one thing to get rid of a guy that was arguing with the head coach, driving fans away, and overall destroying the Jackson State football program.
The troubles with coaches, struggles of players and the angst of fans are all well documented at Jackson State University. And with their tumultuous season finally coming to a close
Is Jackson State so bad, that if your squad loses to them, it’s apparently worth slashing the coaching staff’s tires?
