The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is reporting that former Morgan State University coach and current Washington Redskins running backs coach Stump Mitchell is a candidate for the Southern University head football coach position.
At first glance, you would think this was a good idea. A former NFL player with multiple coaching stops in the league would be a good look for a story black college football program, right?
Then you realize that Mitchell’s overall record was bad. 8-24 over three years bad. So bad, that the NCAA statistics website doesn’t have him logged in its coaching history.
Nothing against Mitchell, but you would hope one of black college football’s programs of record would’nt reverse its established course of selecting championship-caliber coaches.
