So if the Mayor-President makes remarks for Jaguar Nation to remain calm in the face of Pete Richardon’s firing, you know this was an unexpected turn of events down in Baton Rouge.
“The other part of this is a call for the Jaguar Nation not to get into finger pointing, no matter which side you’re on, to not let this turn into war of words, that we move forward together, to move the entire Southern University community forward for the entire nation.”
And he’s right. Southern will obviously be on the hunt for the next championship-winning coach, and from wherever they pluck the next Jaguar general, it would be best for Jag Land to embrace the new direction of the program.
Their reaction will go a long way in steering the Southern athletic department out of deficit and wavering support, into a new era of excellence. It may be hard for Jaguar fans to accept, but the SWAC Western Division and the conference championship are not the birthright of SU; they now have to scrap to keep pace not only with Grambling, but Prairie View and an awakening Texas Southern program.
