Bethune-Cookman University, while it has not formally announced the hire, is expected to name Rutgers assistant coach Brian Jenkins the Wildcats’ new head coach.
Jenkins is in his first year with Rutgers. Before joining the Scarlet Knights, the Fort Lauderdale native was the running backs coach and special teams coordinator at Louisiana-Lafayette. He also coached for Frankfurt Germany of NFL Europe and was previously on the coaching staffs of Bowling Green, Eastern Illinois and Western Kentucky.
You have to give BC credit for giving a young coach a shot, and you figure that Jenkins is a solid choice for how the team is currently built. Aside from being able to relate to players and recruit out of his home state, the 38-year-old Jenkins will draw heavily on his background as a receivers and running backs coach; imperative for a team built for power and speed in the ground game.
On a semi-related tip, anybody else surprised that Alvin Wyatt’s name hasn’t been dropped as a finalist for any of the open jobs?
