South Carolina State will meet Appalachian State in the opening round of the FCS playoffs. The location? Boone, NC; home of the Mountaineers.

At stake? Revenge for an older, more balanced Bulldogs squad.

Is it fair for the seventh ranked Bulldogs to have to travel for their second-straight playoff appearance? Is it just that the Bulldogs will meet up with one of the best mid-major programs in the last 10 years, instead of opening in Orangeburg against a less-renowned opponent?

No. But it begs the question; is South Carolina State’s rank a product of its potential and talent, or the lack thereof in the conference in which they play?
