Remember Nick Van Exel? There was a time where he was legitimately in the discussion for best point guard in the NBA.

Now, he’s surpassed Virginia Union’s Anthony Peeler as the best former NBA player coaching at a black college, as Texas Southern University signed the 14-year vet up just under a month ago.

I’m always an advocate for former pro players developing their coaching mettle within the black college ranks. The money may not be much, but the job security and challenge of taking small schools onto big stages is the perfect set-up for men and women looking to begin their second career.

And whether you win or lose, arrogant college presidents will be too scared of losing your influence and possible connections to donors to say anything to you.
