For a while, it was beginning to look like Bethune-Cookman would lose every last one of its games. A home defeat to Division II Shaw, a lack of offensive firepower and many questions from Wildcat Nation swirled around head coach Alvin Wyatt and his team.

But guess who’s back in the second half of the season? The Wildcats are 5-1 in their last six games, largely thanks to a light schedule featuring fair-to-poor teams in the MEAC.

In the last three weeks, the Wildcats have knocked off a pair of 5-5 teams in North Carolina A&T and Hampton, and have beaten conference bottom feeders in Delaware State and Howard. The offense, compared to the anemic displays through the first several weeks, has been serviceable. Over the last five games, BC allowed 20 points just twice and have scored 27 or more three out of those five.

And would it surprise you to know that Bethune-Cookman is number one in the conference in pass defense? It helps when you are playing passing-impaired offenses like Howard and Winston-Salem State, but they are conference leaders nonetheless.

They caught the competition and are fourth in the conference. Additionally, and this might catch some folks off guard, they have a decent chance of beating an injury-depleted Florida A&M in the Florida Classic.

With the start that this team had, imagine the Wildcats program finishing with a 6-5 record and four straight conference wins.
