We expected Albany State to reach the NCAA Division II playoffs, and there was even hope for a shot an SIAC championship in Ram Land.

Two out of three ain’t bad, unless you’re talking about ASU’s record in their last three games.

The third-seeded Rams will play sixth-seeded West Alabama in the Albany Municipal Coliseum this Saturday, and the scenario is set up in the Rams favor. A playoff game virtually in the Rams’ backyard is virtually an anomaly in black college football.

But is ASU up to the challenge? Where they just fell short in their loss to Tuskegee three weeks ago, the Rams got beat up by Fort Valley State in the Fountain City Classic, which you just knew would be a trap game for the second-place Rams.

Win, lose or draw, the Rams are in the playoffs and put another cap on a great season. But with another SIAC championship out of reach and a sluggish entrance into the playoffs, can you really have a great season with a super sloppy conclusion?
