The University of Maryland-Eastern Shore has been voted into the Eastern College Athletic Association; a multi-divisional conference that fields championships in 37 men’s and women’s sports. The Hawks will still participate in MEAC competition, but will also compete in the ECAC as a secondary membership.
The good news is that the Hawks have an opportunity to compete against other small, reputable mid-major programs in the region. Call it a positive step in improving recruiting and enhancing the exposure of the UMES program. At the same time, it’s also an adequate distraction to the Hawks’ struggle to compete in the MEAC and Division I athletic realm. Without a football team, and with a non-descript basketball team, the Hawks have very little that attracts fans or attention outside of Princess Anne.
