
It’s a legitimate question, folks. Not just on the rumors that Coach Alvin Wyatt will likely be gone after the season, but even if he stays, it appears that the Wyattbone offense may have run its course in black college football.
BC took to the air in its stunning homecoming loss to the Winston-Salem State Rams last weekend, and struggled mightily. Some may call it a desperation tactic to salvage the game against the born-again CIAA squad, but it was just a microcosm of what has become a growing trend for the Wildcats’ offense.
Through seven games, Bethune-Cookman has attempted 134 passes, good for an average of 19 per contest. For a team that still leads the conference in rushing attempts by a wide margin, and has the second best rushing offense in the MEAC, it seems that the new passing fancy out of Coach Wyatt is more than just tinkering with the offense.
It may be a sign that the running attack just ain’t what it used to be.
This isn’t to say that the new passing Cats’ are the way of their immediate offensive future – they’ve only thrown for one touchdown and 10 interceptions on the year. But the rushing offense has also lost 16 fumbles on the year, and has positioned the team dead last in turnover margin.
Something is bound to change down in Daytona – and if Coach Wyatt is smart, he may look for the change to take place with his offense instead of his resume’.
