The Morgan State Bears were not supreme underdogs coming into the game, were undaunted while playing in it, and prevailed over the Maryland Terrapins 66-65.
You can call it an upset, because the Terps looked much better than they did last year. The stakes were high for the Bears, and they responded inside and outside. They countered mindless turnovers, phantom foul calls and missed free throws, with timely three-point shooting, good rebounding and a solid inside presence.
It was scary for stretches, pretty in flashes, and beautiful in its outcome. Reggie Holmes did what we knew he could do. Kevin Thompson did more than we ever thought he could do, much earlier than we thought he could do it.
Todd Bozeman went ballistic, Greivis Vazquez looked out of control, and it all came together in a way we expected, but didn’t quite believe. Morgan State walks out of College Park with the biggest win in black college basketball this year.
PS- I’m so glad I went to Morgan State! (And not Maryland!)

I’d rather be a loser at UM than be a winner at MSU! Anyway, good game. You all deserved that one. Its like a broken record. A typical Williams-led team underachieves and blows a significant 2nd half lead.

No, I think you’d much rather be a winner at UMD. But you didn’t, and no one likes sour grapes.
If Morgan would have lost, I would not have put down the entire school. Gary Williams? Probably. But not the entire school. Show some class.
