Roger Totten, an experienced offensive strategist and key to the Alabama A&M fourth-ranked passing attack in 2008 has accepted an assistant head coaching position under Reggie Barlow at Alabama State University. Totten will also serve as receivers coach.
This could be one of the pieces that gets the Hornets back to a respectable level in the SWAC Eastern division. Last season at A&M, Totten helped make senior receiver Thomas Harris among the receiving leaders in the SWAC, finishing the season with 72 catches and more than averaging more than 100 yards per game.
There were high expectations under Barlow for an exciting passing offense, particularly with junior quarterback Reid Herchenbach under center. However, the Hornets were last in the SWAC in scoring offense and seventh in passing offense, something that Totten could remake with work on the receiving corp.
