The rumors are growing louder and louder about North Carolina A&T and their search for a new head football coach. A source close to the program recently disclosed to the HBCU Sports Blog that the short list of names includes Tuskegee’s Willie Slater, Jackson State’s Rick Comegy, and Prairie View’s Henry Frazier III.
Speculation also has a rather large number being floated around for the next head coach’s annual salary. $300K is the generous end of the guessing spectrum and $175,000 is the established low-end.
Nothing has been reported or confirmed by members of the university or the A&T athletic administration, so it’s all hearsay at this point. But with the Aggies’ recent stretch of football mediocrity, it seems plausible that they are willing to dramatically reverse course by bringing in a big name coach with a history of success. Aggie Pride is a lucrative business venture for the university, and while a big salary may seem unwise, a proven head coach may be just what the program needs for wins and an increase in fan and sponsorship-generated revenues.
We’ll keep you posted.

A&T will not pay nearly that much for a coach. A&T also is not interested in Slater or Comegy.

“Not interested” meaning they never were, or “not interested” meaning they were, and are no longer interested?
