A lot of people left Thursday’s game between Grambling State and Texas Southern very unhappy. Not just becasue the Tigers beat the brakes off of TSU, but because Texas Southern won the halftime showdown by default.
As in, Grambling’s band didn’t show up.
Texas Southern school officials knew weeks in advance that the Grambling band would not make the trip due to financial constraints. It’s a smart move considering that many schools don’t have the money for their bands to travel, but the Grambling band is as large a part of the football program as the team itself.
As the Tiger football squad marches on to a possible appearance in the SWAC championship, here’s hoping that Tiger boosters or corporations can get behind the greatest ambassadors of Grambling State University, the Tiger Marching Band.
As for the Ocean of Soul, ain’t no shame in beating the brakes off of a band that wasn’t there.
