Come on, SWAC. Come up with something better than a random coin flip. A three-way tie in the Western division has to come down to something more than pure chance. Not after the three teams involved have put the work in to make it happen.
Nothing came easy this season for Grambling, Prairie View, or Southern. Especially for the Jags, who basically have been playing elimination games for half of the season, and winning the elimination games. The Tigers and the Panthers have been marked programs from the start of the season. They’ve maintained in conference, and performed out of conference.
So for either of these teams to be eliminated from post season play as a result of heads or tails makes the entire SWAC conference look like the latter. There’s so many other ways to carve out the Western division winner aside from fate. How about the highest in-conference margin of victory? Most points scored? Strength of schedule?
Either of these teams has reason to represent in the SWAC football championship, and they all deserve more than a lame coin flip to justify their hard work.
