It’s a new feature here on the HBCU Sports Blog, Games of the Week. Every week, we’ll preview the top contests from the four historically black athletic conferences, (MEAC, SWAC, CIAA, SIAC) and give you the opportunity to vote on which contest will be the best. The winner will receive a full-fledged post on Monday morning.
Here are the nominees for Week 6.
CIAA – Bowie State vs. Lincoln (Pa.) – Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, Bowie, MD. 1:00 P.M. – Also known as the Prince George’s County Football Classic, the Bulldogs will try to ruin the Lions’ biggest game yet in their return to college football competition. Honorable Mention – The 116th anniversary of the first black college football game between Livingstone and Johnson C. Smith plays out this weekend.
MEAC – Florida A&M vs. South Carolina State – Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, Tallahassee, FL. 6:00 P.M. -It’s getting tight at the top of the MEAC standings, and the Rattlers host the Bulldogs in a showdown between two of the conference’s three-win teams. Honorable Mention – Hampton visits Delaware State in its first real test since Week 2 against Southern Illinois.
SIAC – Tuskegee vs. Alabama A&M – Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, Indianapolis, IN. 4:00 P.M. – The Circle City Classic is the headline game for the SIAC, as the Tigers face the Bulldogs for the first time in eight years. Honorable Mention – Clark Atlanta looks to maintain their wining ways against Savannah State, as the Panthers host the Tigers in a homecoming match-up.
SWAC – Prairie View A&M vs. Grambling – Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, Dallas, TX. 6:00 p.m. – The New Jack PVAMU Panthers take on the Old School Tigers in a definitive game for the Panthers’ dream season. Honorable Mention – Two struggling power houses in Southern and Jackson State meet up in Mississippi with the winner staying alive in the race for the conference crown.
