Jackson State is calling on all Tiger faithful to “white-out” Memorial Stadium this weekend for its match-up with Southern University. In years past, this would have been a critical match-up in the race for the SWAC football crown.
But this year, its just plain old Southern-Jackson State.
If the question is who needs the win more, its obviously Jackson State. They have yet to secure a conference win, and a loss could knock them out of contention for the SWAC championship. A win doesn’t put them back in the hunt, but they at least remain in the discussion for another week.
Southern, on the other hand, is still in good position despite their 2-2 record. The Jags eked past Alcorn State last week, and get into the roughest portion of their schedule, which features the likes of Prairie View A&M and Florida A&M in the latter part of October.
The records wouldn’t indicate it, but this is a big game for both programs.
