27 games. That’s how long the Aggies of North Carolina A&T waited for a victory, and their wait was was awarded in grand fashion with a 44-12 romp over CIAA opponent Johnson C. Smith on Saturday afternoon.

But the Aggies and head coach Lee Fobbs apparently want no part of extended celebration for ending college football’s longest losing streak.

“We’re not going to discard winning the game,” Fobbs said Monday of the 44-12 verdict over Division II Johnson C. Smith, “but it’s all over now. We’ve got to get ready for our next opponent.”

Now that’s the professional thing to say, but seriously. 27 games is a long time to not get on the bus or walk back to the dorms as the victor. Two recruiting classes, two graduating classes, and generations of alumni have bore witness to one of black college football’s proudest programs looking up at competition, and back on accomplishments past.

It’s just one game, but its a game the Aggie Nation can certainly be proud of.

At least until this weekend.
